Baerwald Cartridge Alignment Protractor Download

NOTE! If you have a cartridge that is longer than 60mm then the inner grid line radii will be accurate (50mm) but the outer grid will need to be worked around to enable the correct spacing. This will result in the outer grid lines being off from being perpendicular to the long side of the cartridge.

The protractor is supplied with a set of two mounting pins to attach the protractor to the Technics headshell. The set of four allows you to mount the protractor as close to the centre of the Technics headshell as you feel comfortable (36-45mm).

The head assembly and arm length are both marked on the short side of the protractor - the distance from the armpit to the tip of the stylus. Use a caliper or ruler and line up the zero point to the long side (ZP = 0.1mm).

The protractor is supplied as a set of four - the inner two grids are attached via a pair of 19mm mounting pins, the outer two are via a pair of 24mm mounting pins. Vibration damping material is provided for both types.

This protractor does not include an arm rest, however it is possible to replace the armrest from the Technics head assembly. You may find that the armrest does not fit due to the travel of the arm. If this is the case then you should be able to trim the distance between the mounting pins. Please contact us for further advice.

The alignment can be performed by laminating a piece of card onto the record. The card is then divided into 3 sections - left, centre, right - and 3 lines at different angles on each section of the card.

In the magazine the article mentioned about the difference between a Lofgren A and a Stevenson alignment. It mentions the distance being different: the Lofgren A is 225mm and the Lofgren B is 255mm.
