Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac is a version of Microsoft Office developed for Mac OS X. It is equivalent to Office 2003 for Windows. The software was originally written for PowerPC Macs, so Macs with Intel CPUs must run the program under Mac OS X's Rosetta emulation layer. For this reason, it is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 and newer.
Now, open the Microsoft folder (in Preferences), and drag com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist to the desktop.Note If you have Service Pack 2 installed, open Application Support > Microsoft instead of Preferences > Microsoft.
Microsoft office for mac is a completely different version from the office for windows because it is a version which is totally based on the Microsoft Office productivity suite for mac os x. This Microsoft office for mac is one of the best and successors of 2011 and it is followed by the Microsoft office for mac of 2007.
In many ways, what you actually pay for when you legally purchase a copy of Microsoft Office is the product key (sometimes referred to as a CD key or key code, or incorrectly as the serial number. This unique number is required during the installation of Microsoft office os. So, even if you did find an OS Office download, you would still need a valid OS product key to install and use Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
I am working on flex and my flex application generates an xml which is using open office related schema s and will be saved into my desktop as an open office xml file. File size will be 2MB or more than 2MB. This file is able to open success fully when i try to open in windows 7 OS and office 2010, but with Mac OS 10.7.5 and office 2011 / 2008 its not able open , word is hanging.
Point 1 : If we have office 2013 we can successfully open (open xml ) document in MAC os. Please correct me if am wrong. ( my question here is , right now some of the open xml documents are able open in mac os, some or not).
ITS will end support for Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion) later this year. 10.6 was released in 2009 and the last security update from Apple was March 2013. 10.7's last update was September 2014. Apple has since released other security updates for its more recent systems, but did not include Snow Leopard or Lion. It is against University policy for ITS to support an insecure operating system.
I will be grateful for your help on how I can safely upgrade my Mac OS X 10.7.5 to a higher version because my OS is obsolete and I have problems working with apps, in particular I can't install MySQL, for example, and can't perform other important tasks.
Thank you very much for your answer. I have been told that it is not recommended to leapfrog to a much higher version from 10.7.5. Also do these upgrades require reinstallation of Microsoft Office and other programs?
I recently purchased a Mac Mini (2011) and have OS X Lion Server 10.7.3 installed on it. I set up file sharing and enabled SMB for Windows clients. I copied the files over no problem and can authenticate and access them from Windows 7 pretty easily.
This issue is the same whether its Lion Server or Lion. I was able to reproduce the same problem on a friends Macbook running Lion 10.7.3. The common link seems to be 10.7.3. I called Apple Care support and although nice and courteous, said they could not help me. They told me to contact Microsoft. So after posting to Apple Support Communities and getting no responses so far, I'm reaching out here in hopes that you Visio users may be able to reproduce the same issue. This happens 100% of the time on all versions of Visio that I've tried. Its kind of critical as time is running out for me to return the Mac mini, so I'm posting here as well.
I reported this to Apple support and got it escalated all the way up to the Enterprise Engineering support team. This is a bug in OSX Lion 10.7.3 with the smbx file system. Apple replaced samba with thier own version in 10.7.3. It seems to be denying access with the temporary files and file operations created by Visio upon opening the file. I'm not sure if its locking or temp file permissions, but the bug is confirmed. My solution was simple - I returned the Mac Mini because it was in the 14 day window to do so. I am now back to a Winux environment. I returned the Mini because I purchased it to use as a file server and unfortunately, it simply doesn't work. I use Visio in my daily work, so that was a no-go for me.
I created a Visio File with my Windows 7 laptop and Visio 2007 and saved it on my mac mini running OSX Lion 10.7.3 and worked on it saving several times for a couple hours. Later, I tried to open it from the mac mini on my desktop computer running Windows 7 and Visio 2010. I had the access denied error. I was able to make a copy on my desktop and open it from there. The thing is, I can't open it directly from my mac mini shared folder...

Review The first major update to Apple's Mac operating system in some five years is nearly ready, and what has been removed is as significant as its improvements. Mac OS X 10.7, known informally as Lion, continues the trend of removing "legacy" components and technologies from OS X with a zeal that would leave Microsoft quivering in terror.
As far as Adobe software such as Photoshop, the Creative Suite, and Lightroom, you can read a page that Adobe has published listing the problems they know about:Known Issues with Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion
I am currently using Adobe Illustrator 10.3. I have been using Illustrator for at least 25 years and I am trying to decide what Illustrator to use with a new macbook pro. My old computer is running snow leopard and the illustrator 10.3 is working fine. My new computer is running 10.7.2. What would suggest that I do? Do you think that 10.3 will work on Lion or do I need to upgrade to CS?Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Like many third-party programs, Office for Mac 2011 and Office for Mac 2008 also lack support for many of the Lion-specific features that Apple introduced with Mac OS X 10.7, such as Auto Save and Versions.
