The PlayStation 3 version was released in North America on September 11, 2009, in Europe on September 21, 2009, and in Japan on October 7, 2009. The Xbox 360 version was released in North America on October 14, 2009, in Europe on October 21, 2009, and in Japan on December 7, 2009. A PSP version of NBA 2K11 was released in North America on June 10, 2010, in Europe on July 17, 2010, and in Japan on November 18, 2010. NBA 2K11 was released for the Wii U in North America on July 22, 2014 and in Europe on September 8, 2014, and in Japan on November 13, 2014.
After NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12 was released in 2012. NBA 2K13 was released in 2013, followed by NBA 2K14 in 2014 and NBA 2K15 in 2015. NBA 2K16 was released in 2016 and NBA 2K17 in 2017. NBA 2K18 was released in 2018, and NBA 2K19 in 2019. NBA 2K20 is currently in development with no official release date.
The game is the successor to NBA 2K10, which was a commercial success. It is the first game in the NBA 2K series to be released on all five platforms: Windows, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and Game Boy Advance. NBA 2K11 is the first game in the NBA 2K series to be developed by Visual Concepts instead of Visual Concepts/Bevel Edge.

A Limited Collector's Edition of the game was released which includes NBA 2K11, a wooden statue of Michael Jordan, a poster of Jordan's Greatest Moments, a poster of the Jordan Brand, a replica jersey with Jordan's number 23, a poster of the Jordan brand, and a hardcover art book with a Michael Jordan biography by David Halberstam.
NBA 2K11 features a new game engine named Visual Concepts Revolution, which features a more realistic physics engine. The game also introduced new features such as the ability to have guest players, and basketball features such as shooting a shot from a distance, dunking, the ability to run the basketball, and other details.
The Be a Pro game type allows the player to create a player with customizable attributes. The player can then play with any of the league's teams, shooting for the highest score. If the player fails to make the NBA playoffs, then the player will be given a lower rank. 827ec27edc
